Starting Fresh After Labor Day

Does anyone else enjoy the first Tuesday after Labor Day?  I view the calendar in three segments: The start of the year to Memorial Day; Memorial Day through Labor Day; and the first Tuesday after Labor Day until the end of the year!

The first part of the year is all about new beginnings, whereas the middle moves at a much slower pace. This is largely thanks to warmer weather and the vacations that accompany it. But the last third of year –is the best part of the year (or at least in my opinion)!  The weather is cooling off, the holidays are approaching, football is back, and it you have four months to complete your goals.

You’ve Got Mail

There is a wonderful scene from You’ve Got Mail where Meg Ryan’s and Tom Hanks’ characters share an email exchange that talks about New York in the Fall. Hanks’ character sends the following message:

Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”

And that’s how I feel about this time of year, it’s like a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils! In fact, I love it so much that it inspired me to write this blog! I’ve divided up the benefits of this crisp time into three different categories: Work, Home, and Health.

Work:

I don’t know about where you work, but here at Model55 the atmosphere in the office changes after Labor Day. Everyone is back from their summer vacations ready to end the year at our best! Additionally, our clients are budgeting for the year that’s coming, and we are all hard at work helping them prepare.

It’s not just the busy buzz that is so invigorating during these four months. I think it’s the change of season and the nostalgia that it brings all of us. For me, it reminds me of going back to school. The promise of new friends and opportunities is just as prevalent as pumpkins and apple cider.

Home:

Work isn’t the only place that feels like a bouquet of a freshly sharpened pencils from Labor Day to New Year’s. With the cooler weather approaching, everything seems to slow down. I find this time is the best to recapitulate and organize. Perhaps this is just the New Englander in me, but I love cleaning out my space during the early fall months. Nothing feels better than a house clear of clutter with the windows open to the fresh fall air.

Admittedly, being from New England might impact how much I love this season. This is the season of Football (Go Pats!), cooler air, fall foliage, sweaters, apple picking, pumpkin muffins from Dunkin’, and so much more!

Lastly, I love preparing for the holidays as this season winds down and the days get colder. For me, the promise of family time, delicious food, and holiday parties is like the pretty bow on my pencil bouquet!

Health:

As I mentioned before, this time really is perfect for fresh beginnings. It reminds me of how good it feels to complete my goals both in my personal and professional life. I also think this season is so good for your health because it is a natural advertisement for being outdoors. Where I am from, enjoying the golden sun and sprawling New England scenery is as simple as jumping in the car and driving ten minutes up the street. I love outdoor walks during this time.

Do you have any fall activities that promote health and wellness?

Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed my post about starting fresh after Labor Day. I would love to hear about your favorite time of year. Let me know if the comments below!

Do you have budgeting questions?
