Spring Resident Event Ideas

May is finally here! For us New Englanders that means warm weather is finally within reach, and for property management teams it means busy season has slowly started to gain momentum. Even though you will be busy with tours, leases, and renewals these next few months – it’s still important to keep your residents engaged. Here’s a short list of events to keep that community feeling for everyone through the Spring:

1) FITNESS CLASS

Spring is a great time to start working out outside again and soak up those extra hours of sunshine. Do a search of your local area and find mobile fitness programs or instructors that will come to your building. Two really fun classes for this time of year are cycling and yoga. There are programs that will bring the bikes and instructor to you as long as you require sign-up beforehand and keep the groups relatively small.

2) FOOD TRUCK PICNIC

Because who doesn’t love having delicious food options – quite literally – right outside their door? Do a local search of food trucks in your area. Then, pick a few options and invite them to your property for an evening. Depending on your events budget, there are a few ways to go about this. Either way you choose, you will need ticket vouchers to hand out to residents.

If it’s within your budget, every resident who decides to attend would receive one ticket voucher that’s good for one meal from the truck of their choice. If that’s not within your budget, you could also do 50% off vouchers instead – they pay half and you pick up the rest. Add to the fun by providing picnic blankets!

3) SPRING CLEANING

When living in an apartment, possessions add up over the months (or years) and your space slowly starts to shrink. As a property management team, you can have an event that will make your residents happy and allow you to give back: a donation drive!

For this event it’s best to set a short time frame and prepare your residents weeks in advance with ample reminders. Have several different spots in your office or lobby for gently used clothing, home goods, school supplies, recreational items, and toys. There are so many different community organizations that you can choose to donate to in your area.

4) BARBECUE

Did you know that May is National Barbecue Month? Get into the spirit by throwing a barbecue for your residents! This event can also be done several ways, and it’s always a crowd favorite – especially if the sun is out! Whether you call in the pros with a mobile smoker or you hire a caterer to grill on your community grills, it’s bound to be a great time.

5) CELEBRATE THE MONTH OF

MAY WITH MINI EVENTS

TUESDAY, MAY 7TH – National Teacher Day. For an ode to the teachers out there, set up a table in your office a few days before with a card station for kids to come in and make cards to take to school.

SUNDAY, MAY 12TH – Mother’s Day. If your property management company allows, set up a Happy Mother’s Day mimosa bar in the lobby with breakfast pastries. Add a decorative display and have fun with it!

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15TH – National Chocolate Chip Day. Grab n’ go chocolate chip cookie and milk bar, need I say more?

MONDAY, MAY 27TH – Memorial Day. Don’t forget to let your residents know of your holiday hours and enjoy your day off!
