Greenery: The 2017 Pantone Color of the Year
Refresh, renew, revitalize, revamp… The Pantone Color of 2017 is all about new beginnings and fresh starts. Greenery, or Pantone 15-0343, was recently announced as Pantone’s Color of the Year – and we are fully on board! From accessories and furnishings to accent walls and artwork, the designers at Model55 love the unique and inviting feel of this shade of green.
Model55’s First Reactions
It is no wonder that the color chosen to represent 2017 embodies hope, calm, and a sense of getting back to nature. As most reviews on the subject matter suggest, including the article by Vanessa Friedman in the New York Times, this color reflects the antithesis of the hectic year we are leaving behind us.
One great thing our designers love about this color is that it is both subtle and energizing at the same time: like the first few warm days of spring. And although one or two of us at Model55 may feel that the grassy green shade does nothing for our complexion, we all agree that this color has the potential to bring life, warmth, and a sense of natural elements to any room.
Here are a few of the interior design trends we look forward to seeing with Pantone’s pick in 2017:
#1. Accent Walls and Cabinetry
We love how this color livens up any room while simultaneously making it feel peaceful and calm. Using green on an accent wall or the kitchen cabinets leaves neutral grey and black color pallets wide open. We love the grey, white and green color scheme in this picture. It makes a modern design feel both retro and inviting. What do you think?
#2. Greenery in Your Accessories
As we pointed out in the previous example, we love the use of green and grey when layered appropriately. One way you can bring a grey, tone-on-tone design to life is through the use of plants and greenery.
You can also use green accessories to tie bold, green furniture into your room’s design, like in the kitchen pictured on the left.
#3. Green Bedding
A great way to bring a sense of calm and cool to any bedroom design is to add a warm shade of green, like Pantone 15-0343, to your bedding. Combined with refined accessories, and clean lines, this color can set a peaceful ambiance that makes any bedroom feel inviting and tranquil.
#4. Go Green or Go Home
Lastly, we love the use of this shade in statement pieces, like the couch featured below. Using the different tones of wood from the floor, tables, and ceiling, as well as the plant life accessorizing the room, this couch ties the loft together in a sophisticated way that somehow reminds us of both urban life and the great outdoors.
This room offers a sense of home that sparks interest and inspiration.
We’re Going… Green
So, there you have it. A few examples of green design trends we look forward to exploring and enjoying in 2017. As for the Panton Color of the Year, our designers give it two very green thumbs up.
